Robert Kwami passed away

In March 2004 we were sadly informed by Caroline van Niekerk of PASMAE (Pan-African Society of Musical Arts Education) that Robert Kwami had passed away. Robert Kwami was co-host for the 2001 CDIME conference in London, and an inspiring example of active inquisitiveness for our field. His death is a great loss for all who knew him. Below is the message that came from Caroline van Niekerk on 16 March 2004.

We are very sad to have to report the following devastating news: Prof Robert Kwami, who has for just over the last year been based at Pretoria University, passed away just after midnight last night, South African time. He had been in the intensive care unit for a few days, and fortunately his wife Alma had been able to fly in on Sunday from the UK to be with him.

We all mourn the early death of a highly expert music educator and a lovely, gentle man. He was PASMAE's Director of Music Technology, and made a significant contribution to the Society.

At this stage nothing further is known. We will keep you informed. Anyone wishing to send e-mail condolences to his wife and wider family, is welcome to use caroline@mweb.co.za as a channel, and we will ensure that they receive them.

In sadness, but also in gratitude for his life and example,

Caroline van Niekerk Secretary-General PASMAE
